It got better....

Well, I'm happy to say that my day got better after that crazy and aggravating morning I had. I went to the gym and was able to burn off some of that negative energy I had and I felt good.

I always feel guilty when I get aggravated or mad at my kids. I know it's human and it's natural because kids can be trying sometimes. And even though I'm basically a single mom right now while Travis is away, I have this expectation of myself (probably an unrealistic one) that I'm supposed to be a perfect Mom. And, perfect Mom's don't yell at their kids or get aggravated with them. They remain calm, reason with them and teach them an object lesson or something like that....

So, to make up for the guilt I was feeling over not being the perfect Mom, I decided to spend lots of time with the girls this afternoon. I read to them, wrestled with them, helded Lily's hands while she jumped really high on the bed (she loves that), and played in a fort with them. We ate popcorn and Popsicles too. And, I tried really hard not to get aggravated when they were both going overboard, or using me as a jungle gym, or smothering me. I guess that's why the rest of the day got better... they had all of my attention and I changed my attitude a little. Go figure.

Do other Mom's feel this way?

The girls have been so demanding and requiring so much attention this morning that I feel frustrated and the need to vent!!!!

Most mornings are like this, but this morning seems particularly crazy. From the moment I got up, I have been running around here after the girls... It started off at a manageable level with changing a diaper, taking Lily to the potty, and getting them something to drink. Then it moved up a level when I started to make breakfast, then change a poopy diaper, take Lily to the potty, and find Lily's first outfit of the day.

I tried to encourage Lily to play with Katy while I made breakfast and took care of the business at hand... I mean I'm in the same room with them at least, shouldn't that be enough? Nope, it isn't. I have to be involved in every word of the conversation she is having and I have to stop what I'm doing at least 5 times to find this or that, or change the channel, or get another drink, or button the 2nd dress that she has put on.

So, after they had finished with their breakfast and I thought they were occupied for a few minutes, I tried to sit down at the table to eat my egg and toast and look at a magazine. I don't think that's too much to ask, I mean I'm in the same room with them right? Nope, I was almost immediately swarmed by them and had to get up (no kidding) 4 times from my chair to do something for them. It was so aggravating... I felt like I was getting heartburn!! And, if I resisted in anyway by saying.... "just a minute , or let me eat my breakfast, or you can go potty by yourself..." it doesn't help. It only intensifies!!! Mommy, mommy, mommy!!!!!!

I have to remember to take a deep breaths and think peaceful thoughts.... just being able to write this down has helped. That's all for now, so it's on with my day.

Friday already?

This week has just flown by. Actually, the whole month of February has flown by. I like it because that means it'll soon be March... then April... then May.... and then Travis will be home. And, then we can be done with this deployment.

Travis posted some cool pictures on his blog today of a big dust storm they were experiencing. It was eerily cool.... You can check them out here:

That's all I got!

Monday Musings

I feel like I've been busy this week. Nothing special just the usual type of stuff: taking care of the kids, going to the gym, grocery shopping, haircuts, making dinner, getting Noah ready for his cub scouts uniform inspection, and getting on facebook. I love facebook!

Noah and Lily went back to school after a week off and I think they were both ready. Noah is always eager to get to learning and being around other kids. Lily was sprinting in the door to her preschool this morning. Miss Casey is her new teacher and she super cute and fun. Lily really likes her and was looking forward to painting.

Travis has been calling and emailing me to get things started for our move to Japan. There's lots of paperwork and appointments we'll need to take care of before we go. Just yesterday I took Katy to apply for her first passport. There's so many little things to work out, but Travis is very organized and is already on top of stuff lining it up to be taken care of. I love that about him.

Noah's baptism

Noah and his Uncle Dan

Noah and his proud Mom

Dan and Mom

In our church, when children turn 8 years old they are baptized. Today was Noah's special day and we were so happy that my brother Dan could come all the way from NV to baptize him. The meeting went very well. And, everyone who participated did a wonderful job in making it special for him. I didn't realize how emotional I would be and was on the verge of tears most of the meeting. Travis made a DVD for Noah that he wanted to be played and it was especially touching, sending me over the edge into crying mode. I think most of the ladies there were crying too! After his message it was my turn to give a short talk and it was all I could do to keep it together. I was very choked up, but I was able to get through it. I'm so proud of my sweet boy and happy for him today.

Another Lily moment...

This afternoon while we were waiting for Noah to get his haircut, I read a Highlights magazine to Lily. Travis called while we were there and I tried to talk to him but it was too hard to hear. Lily started getting into things because I stopped reading to her, so I asked Travis if he would call me back. He said he would try (and BTW, he never did!) I explained to Lily that was Daddy on the phone but I couldn't talk to him because it was too noisy. And she said "oh, boo hoo."

She has been doing so many cute things lately... this morning she was using her broom to sweep the floor in her high heels and Noah was laughing at her. She got upset and said to him in a loud voice "I'm brooming in my heel shoes!"

This wonderful group of people are from my church: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. There was an issue with the storage unit our things were in and I needed to have our things moved to another unit. Sister Mecham is my Mom's Visiting Teacher and when she learned of my situation, less than 24 hours later I had all of this help! Everyone just pitched right in and the job was done in an hour. My heart is so full that people were so willing to help me, to give of their time, and not really even know me. But, that's the way it is in our church and it's such a blessing. No matter where you go in this world, you can count on other members of the church to be there willing to serve and help others in need.
"And, behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God” Mosiah 2: 17

Fun with the kiddos

The kids were having fun playing around so I started taking pictures...
and I got some pretty cute ones too!

Not bad....

I was asleep by 10:30 pm last night and was able to sleep until 5:45 am... and I didn't have to get up once. It's amazing how your outlook changes when you get enough sleep!

I'm so tired

The last few days have been busy with the kids and all that they do. Between Lily having a cold and cough and Katy having a cold, cough, and teething they haven't been sleeping well. So, I haven't been sleeping well either. I have still been getting my walks in and going to the gym and I'm glad that I do, but at the end of the day I'm beat. Right now, I'm ready to go to bed and need to go to bed, but I want some quiet time. I need to be able to unwind and have some time where there are no interruptions and I can just be. No expectations, no noise, just quiet. Ahhhh.

Travis is in Qatar having some R&R right now. He deserves to get away and relax and I hope he has fun. He called today to let me know he got there safely and what his plans are while he's there... a sightseeing tour.... and only $45 for a massage, facial, manicure, and pedicure! How can you pass up that deal? While he was telling me this I was finishing up changing a poopy diaper and Lily is yelling "Mom, I need to go potty!" Sigh, I wish I had some R&R too....I need, a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. But, I'll settle for a good nights sleep and I sure hope that's tonight.

Sweet Sisters

It was a beautiful day and we were outside enjoying the sunshine. I have been noticing lately that Lily has been playing better with Katy. It has only taken 13 months for her to start enjoying her little sister! It is really sweet and just melts my heart.

Oh, but enough of that sweet stuff......because we know how sweet and cute the girls are, but they are also very busy and curious and can demolish a room in less than 2 minutes. My sister-in-law Kayna, who should write books, wrote about them in her annual "Christmas" letter she sends to family and friends. We just got it this week and it totally cracked me up!! My Mom and I couldn't stop laughing.... here's what she had to say...
"My January highlight was getting a visit from my sister-in-law Meredith and her two darling girls, ages one and two and a half. Wow, was that ever eye-opening! I can now confirm that 28 days with a 4 year old is equal in energy output to four days with a one year old and two year old! Lily and Katy, as adorable as they come, are like a tag team on a search and destroy mission. Someone needs to explain to me why colorful, blinking, noise-making toys are ignored in favor of dirt in planters, rocks in baskets, and ashes in fireplaces! What is the scientific principle that explains this?"

My Little Shopper in Training

Lily and I had lots of fun when we went to Trader Joe's.
She was such a big helper picking things out and then
putting them in the cart. She was just so funny and
cute that I had to take a picture.

The latest in winter fashions

It was hard to tell if it was Iceland, Maine, or Georgia today because it was sooooo cold and windy. I needed to do a 3 miler and prefer to be outside instead of inside on a treadmill, so I braved the elements. I actually really like walking in cold weather because it feels good to me and I'm usually comfortable once I warm up. But, it was 22 degrees this morning when I was headed to the track and I realized that I wasn't prepared for the wind and needed a hat. What to do.... luckily Katy's sweater was in the car, so I zipped it up, tucked in the sleeves and voila! But, fortunately no one saw me because I was the only person crazy enough to walk outside in this weather.

Just look at these cuties

Noah just adores his Katy. He adores Lily too, most of the time,
but she was unavailable for this picture because she was in the
other room melting down. It was the usual after church, I'm tired
and I'm hungry meltdown.

A few pictures from last week...

Lily loves to wear dresses and these little dress up shoes.
She has 2 pairs of them and has been known to wear them when we
go to check the mail, take out the trash, or to play outside with the kids.

When it is sunny and warm Katy loves to be outside
and just wears herself out completely by walking around
everywhere. She's pretty quick she goes with
my camera case.

I have started curling Lily's hair for church and she
enjoys the whole process. She is such a priss!

I caught a shot of Nana with the girls. They were crawling
all over her fighting for her attention. They love their Nana
and she loves her grand babies!
