Change of Command

Earlier this month the base had the change of command for the new skipper.  It is a ceremony rich in naval heritage, customs, and traditions.  It was neat to see how the leadership changes hands from the outgoing skipper to the new one.  But, I think my favorite part was seeing how handsome everyone looked in their dress whites!

Happy Birthday Grandpa Tom!

Where have the last 2 months gone?

My father in law reminded me it has been 2 months since I last posted so, I thought I better get on the ball and start blogging again. I know my blog is how he keeps up with us so, I am going to jump back in and do a quick recap of the summer. Actually, I started this post a few weeks ago and never found the time to finish it but, I am determined that today is the day. So, here goes Grandpa Tom and I promise post more regularly.

The base had National Night Out with a parade and lots of activities for the kids.

There were lots of fun trinkets for the kids to take home.

Of course a bouncy house is a must at these types of events.

Noah with a couple of his buddies.

The boys rang this bell at least 75 times each. It was fun to watch.

Before school started back we took a trip to Hershey, PA with our friends the Rodgers. Here we are at the Herr's snack factory to take a tour.

We toured around Amish country...

and tasted some famous shoo fly pie. Eh, it was OK.

It was raining the day we planned to go to Hershey Park so we went to Chocolate World instead. I just love that there is a place called Chocolate World.

Katy is an official worker in the chocolate kiss factory.

You have to shake the kisses up high and down low to make sure they are just right.

We went on the chocolate tour ride which was a lot of fun. You get on these little boats and and float along listening to cool songs and learning lots of neat facts about chocolate. And, at the end you get a sample of chocolate!

Chocolate world was packed because I think everyone else had the same idea we did.

The next stop on our rainy day tour was the Julius Sturgis pretzel factory which is the oldest pretzel factory.

We learned the art of pretzel making.

Great job Lily!

Not bad Katy!

The original pretzel factory.

The next stop on our rainy day tour was the Wilbur Chocolate Company.

Hanging out and enjoying the day.

Back at the hotel, Cecil and Travis enjoy some watermelon by the pool....the spent a lot of time in the pool.

The next day we went to Hershey Park and Pepper had to go in the Barking Lot while we went to the park.

The gentleman running it was very friendly and you could tell he loved animals probably more than people.

and more rides!

The water park was huge! There was so much to do and so little time to do it in.

Mommy and Katy waited and did lots of people watching while everyone rode down the lazy river.

Daddy and Lily floating on the lazy river.

A very nice man gave Lily and Katy these huge monkeys. He was sitting next to us on a bench and watched the girls be their cute little selves.

At the end of the day the kids and the adults were worn out. Time to go home!

After all day in the Barking Lot, Pepper was so happy to see us.

Lily didn't want to leave as she gives Faith a goodbye hug.

It was so great to spend time with Faith. We got to run a couple of times together and talk which was much needed girl time for me.

I can't wait to get together again in the spring.

Pepper snoozes on my lap in the car on the way home.

This inversion table is the first piece of furniture we had in our new house. We had to sleep on air mattresses for a couple of nights before our stuff could be delivered which is par for the course for a Navy family.

Woo hoo!! Finally!!

This is the view from our front porch. It is wonderful to have a park like this right across the street.

Noah on the first day of school with a few of his buddies at the bus stop.

Lily and Katy love the swings...

I have gotten pretty good at pushing them both at the same time.

Ring around the rosey...

we all fall down!

Lily on her first day of Pre-K. Katy was excited for her and wanted to be in the pictures too.

Our little girl is growing up so fast!

Lily shows off her new Tinker Bell backpack.

Lily with her teacher on the first day of school.

We went to Virginia Beach to run the Rock n' Roll half marathon Labor Day weekend.

Go Travis!

Yay, it's over!

We ran together and that made the race more enjoyable. The weather was perfect and definitely made for a more pleasant run. I was happy to finish strong and have a PR. I am really getting into this running thing now.... it's a lot of fun.
