Adventures at the ER with Katy

Yesterday the kids were playing on the mini trampoline and were having a great time until...

Katy's toe got smashed underneath one of the legs. It was just one of those unfortunate accidents and both Noah and Lily were so upset that she was hurt. I could see immediately that we would have to go to an Urgent Care of the ER, so I called Mom to come over and watch Noah and Lily while I took Katy.

First I took her to the nearest Urgent Care and they said they do stitches, but she was too young and I needed to take her to the ER. But, they wrapped her foot up for me and I drove her down to Kennestone. On the way she fell asleep...

She was sleeping so hard, snoring even. She didn't wake up when I got her out of the car, put her in the stroller, walked her inside, or while I checked in. The nurses got a real kick out of how hard she was sleeping, commenting on how they wish they could sleep like that.

She still slept while the Dr. took the bandage off her foot so he could take a look at it. There was so much blood caked on it that he had me sit there for about 30 minutes and soak her foot so he could see it better. The big wet spot on the mattress is from the saline solution spilling out of the bowl.

Still sleeping.... Every once in awhile a nurse that was walking by would stick her head in and see if she was still sleeping.

She was startled when she woke up and cried for quite awhile. The nurses came by to check on her and to finally get to say hello to her.

Here's Katy trying to smile for me. She just had her toe thoroughly irrigated and part of her toenail pulled off by the Dr. She was such a brave little girl!

Thankfully I had a lollipop in my purse because that really saved the day!

Her toe bled for the longest time and it is really swollen here. The Dr. had a colleague come in and take a look at it and then decided to get an X-Ray to make sure it wasn't broken. I didn't get any pictures of that part of the ER visit, but she was very good and went along with all of it without fussing.

Mommy with her sweet Katy. Turns out her toe had a small fracture and she was put on antibiotics for 10 days.

A kiss for my big girl.

Here we are at the end of our visit with nurse bandaging her up. It looks like Katy is trying to stop her from touching her toe.

Lot's of Neosporin.

This was supposed to stay on for 24 hours and then it could be taken off, but within 2 hours Katy had taken it off. So, we bandaged it up again, but it came off during the night...not surprisingly, she didn't sleep well at all!

Today she was acting like her normal self and running around as usual. I asked her several times if her boo-boo hurt and she always said no. It's amazing how resilient children are. I know if it were me with her injury, I would be hobbling around and whining.

OK, now I feel old!

We had the missionaries over for dinner tonight and we usually ask them where they are from and how many brothers and sisters they have... stuff like that. Well, Elder S. told us he had 9 brothers and sisters... that he is the oldest and the youngest is 3.

Now, that's a big family in my book, and with how busy my 3 keep me, I said things like "wow" (with my mouth hanging open) and "gosh, your mother must be so busy!" And, "she deserves an award!" Then Elder S. said he thought his mother might be done having kids now because the youngest is already 3 and she would have already been pregnant again. So, I asked him how old his mother was and he said 42.... well, I'm not 42 YET. But, it was like something hit me over the head as I was sitting there thinking next to him thinking that I am old enough to be his mother. I still can't stop thinking about it... I am getting old!

Build- a- Bear

We took Lily and Katy to Build-a-Bear last week for the first time. It was neat how you pick out the bear want and you get to see it get stuffed. You also get to put a heart that says I love you to put in your bear. The girls were told to hold the heart in their hand and warm it up and give it a big kiss before they put it in. Then they get to brush the bear, give it a name, get a birth certificate for it, and pick out clothes for it.

I think the girls had a great time!

Out with the old and in with the new....

I'm the RS leader in our ward and I just got back a little while ago from our first RS meeting of the year. It was a great meeting and I came away from it feeling inspired. I have a new found feeling of how important these meetings are for the sisters in our ward and that it is my responsibility to do a good job in the planning of them. I was given this calling for a reason and I want to do a good job and I certainly don't want to let anyone down that may be depending on me.

The theme was "out with the old and in with the new".... it goes along with it being a new year that we should set some goals and start some new good habits. We had three speakers that talked about how to set goals, the importance of keeping a journal, and the benefits of studying your scriptures everyday. These are subjects we have heard about many times before, but it's always good to be reminded of why these things are so important. And, if you're not doing these things, it's never too late to start.

Tonight I feel inspired to start keeping a journal to write down my more personal thoughts and feelings. Although, I consider my blog to be a journal of the happenings of our family, I don't really post too many personal thoughts and feelings. And, that reminds me that I need to get my blog entries printed periodically....to have my blog entries bound and in a book would be wonderful.

So, I am making a goal tonight to post more often on my blog and start keeping a personal journal. Wish me luck!

When will it warm up?

This is it for the snowfall we received. It's not much but it sure caused lots of problems for our area. The kids are finally back in school today after 2.5 snow days. With the freezing temps, all the snow turned to ice and as a precaution the schools were closed.

On Saturday we had a broken pipe and water went all over our garage. I'm so glad Travis was home when it happened because he knew how to turn the water off right away. I'm sure there would have been a lot more water in the garage if I was the only one home. Fortunately, we didn't have any real damage, it was mostly just food storage boxes that got wet. But, we were without water all day until it could be repaired. Our landlord is awesome and is always so concerned about making sure we are happy and comfortable. He came over 3 or 4 times and called to check on us until it was fixed. Everything is dry and back to normal now.

BTW, thanks Carol for taking the kids for the day. You are awesome!!

And, he does it AGAIN!!!

Noah was so excited when I picked him up from running club today. He jumped in the car and said "Mom, today was was report card day." When I asked him how he did, he said "well, take a look at this and you tell me!" The he whipped out his "A" Honor Roll certificate.

Woo Hoo Noah!! Way to go AGAIN!!! This means another $21 payout!

Lily wanted to be in the picture with Noah too. She just adores him!

Just Because...

....I think this is a very cute picture of Lily all bundled up!

New Years Eve Pics (Late)

We went to Carol's for NYE and of course no NYE's celebration is complete without fireworks. Travis and Ed shot off some pretty impressive ones and the kids were able to hold some sparklers. Kids love sparklers!

Woo Hoo!! We've got snow!!

Snow has been in the forecast all week, so everyone has been excited about it. The schools closed early today in anticipation of it, and they will be closed tomorrow as well. It's fun to see the kids so excited about it, and even funnier that such a big deal has been made out it. My friends in Maine would get a kick out of this!

The flurries started about 2:00 this afternoon.

I could hardly get the kids to put coats on let alone gloves and hats!

This is the accumulation about 4 hours later.

See Pepper in the doorway? She does not like to go outside when it's cold.

More of the white stuff!

Happy New Year!

I am excited about the new year and the fresh start it brings. It gives me a chance to reflect and make some goals for the new year. I made some resolutions last year that I'm happy to say I actually kept and it has made a huge difference in my life. Mostly, I just resolved to take better care of myself and do some much needed things for myself.

I lost 35 lbs which was an enormous feat for me and I feel so much better physically. I completed a marathon in May like I set out to do and a couple of half's as well. I actually enjoy exercising now and look forward to going to the gym, especially for Body Combat!

I started taking some college classes on-line in the fall and I have thoroughly enjoyed them. I did not realize how much I missed learning and how much I needed to start this ball rolling again after all of these years. I finally feel like I know what I want to do with my life and it excites me to think that when I do finally finish that I will be able to have a career doing something worthwhile. Although, what I did not count on was how hard it would be to do with 3 kids, so I will be taking it nice and slow and hope to finish by the time Katy goes to kindergarten, but if I can do it sooner than that, I'll be very happy.

This year I resolve to get more organized. I know that would make Travis so happy, lol!

Resolution Run 2010

We decided to start the new year off right by participating in a race on New Years Day. Actually, Noah's present to me for Christmas was the entry to this race. Hmmm, I wonder where he got that idea from? The race started at noon which was really nice and there was nice size crowd with people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. That's my kind of race! Noah and I did the 5k while Travis did the 10k. I think Noah had a fun time doing this with us and we plan to do more of these in the future.

Here's the crowd gathering at the starting line.

It was soooo cold, so this hug from Dad felt pretty nice.

Cheese!

Passing Travis on his 2nd loop... {Revision: Travis says that he was passing me, not the other way around!}

A happy Noah at the finish line!

Noah is waiting for Travis to finish while this polar bear is here to let everyone know about the polar bear run coming up later in the month. Hmmm, I wonder if we can fit that in too!

Here's Travis coming over the finish line! The shirt was pretty decent... it was a royal blue, long sleeve, technical shirt... Travis got a black one.... I might have to snag his.
