Noah's last piano lesson with Miss Jo

On Wednesday Noah had his last piano lesson with Miss Jo and although he was pretty happy about it, I was a little sad. Miss Jo is my Mom's neighbor and when we moved to GA almost 2 years ago she offered to give him lessons... for free. I have thought so many times how generous she has been with her time and I am so grateful to her for wanting to teach Noah because she has no other students. She has given Noah a great foundation of music and he will carry that with him throughout his life.

Since it was his last lesson she wanted him to go back and play some of his favorite songs he has learned. It was neat to see how much he has improved. He played "Totem Pole", "My Bonny", "Yankee Doodle", "The Entertainer", and the "Maple Leaf Rag" to name a few. My Mom came over to listen to and she is so proud of Noah for doing so well.

Miss Jo is so awesome! Thank you for being Noah's first piano teacher. We will miss you!

Highlights from Jody and Ensa's Visit

A couple of weeks ago my dear friend Jody and her husband Ensa came to visit us from Germany. We had a great time eating, shopping, and showing them around the area. Jody hadn't been to the states in over 4 years and wanted to do some shopping. We went to the mall at least 3 times and then there was Target, Kohl's, Ulta, Whole Foods, Wal-mart etc...And, she wanted to eat certain things while she was here...Dominoes, Five Guys, Dairy Queen, Mexican, and a few others I can't remember right now. Whew, it was a busy week!

This was Ensa's first trip to the US and we wanted to make it special so we made some posters to welcome them. I think Lily and Katy did a great job on this one!

Jody is so awesome! I heart her :)

Me, Ensa, and Jody on their first day here ready to go sightseeing in Atlanta.

Of course we had to stop at Planet Smoothie and get a smoothie for the road.

While we were waiting for our smoothies Lily decided to cover Katy in stickers just because.

Travis is an excellent tour guide and gave us a great driving tour of downtown.

On the Georgia Tech campus.

The Margaret Mitchell House.

A good ol' Marta bus.

State Capital Building. Noah went on a field trip there this year and told us about how the gold on the dome needs to be replaced 4 or 5 times a year.

We were near Turner Field and happened upon these cars racing in a parking lot. It was pretty fun to watch. Turns out there were other racing types of events nearby as well.

Travis and Ensa have nice shoulders for sitting.

But Noah's are the best!

One morning Travis took Ensa to Blanket's Creek for some mountain bike riding. Ensa had never been before and Jody was a little worried he might get hurt, but Travis assured her he would be fine. They were not gone more than an hour before they returned because Ensa had an accident. Thankfully, it was a minor accident but the front tire was bent so the biking was over for the day.

Jody wanted Travis to make California rolls like he used to when we lived in Iceland, but since they aren't $14 a roll here it's just easier to buy them. Travis made summer rolls to go along with them.

One night we grilled steaks and had corn on the cob and salad. Another night we went over to Carols' house and had dinner.

What could be better than a buffet at a Mexican restaurant?

Cheesing it up with my Lily.

Ensa loves CNN and wanted very much to take the tour of the CNN center. The tour is not designed for children under 12, so Jody took Katy to Centennial Park while me, Travis, and Ensa went.

You aren't allowed to take pictures during the tour so I took a few before and after. Tony Harris was on the air while we went through as well as Chuck Roberts. The tour was awesome and I highly recommend it.

After the tour we had lunch at the food court in the CNN center.

Mommy and Katycat.

Ensa was so patient and good with the kids and the girls took to him immediately.... even Pepper like him. I was worried Pepper might act out and have accidents in the house on purpose like she did the last time we had house guests. But it was all good. Jody had Pepper on her lap in no time and she doesn't do that for just anybody.

Lily loves nail polish and makeup and Jody is an expert when it comes to nail polish and makeup. She spent some time with the girls doing their nails and make them up and they just loved it. The night before they left Lily insisted we have a girl party which was just us girls listening to music and dancing.... oh and Lily was in charge and told us when to dance and when not to dance. Good times!

We had a wonderful visit with Jody and Ensa and already look forward to the next time we see them. Hopefully, it won't be another 3 years before we do. We love you guys!!

Lily's end of the year party at preschool

Last week Lily's preschool class had a (luau) to celebrate the end of the year. Siblings were invited and Katy was very happy to be there. Lily was so cute acting like little Momma showing Katy what to do and making sure she was included in everything.

Katy is telling everyone she is two.

Good times!

Lily got a cute little bucket with her name on it and lots of fun stuff inside like a scissors, a kazoo, stickers, crayons, and sunglasses.

Thanks for a great year Miss Dina and Miss Jane! Have a great summer!!

Chattanooga Weekend!

We took a road trip to TN over the weekend so Travis could run the Rock Creek Scenic City Trail half marathon. We just took the girls because Noah chose to go to his cousins and he was excited about taking Pepper with him to spend the night.

Chattanooga is a nice drive and the perfect little overnight trip. The drive up was nice and relaxing. Travis took us 20 miles out of the way to go to the Lodge factory outlet to check out the cast iron but we didn't find any deals.

Travis and Lily playing checkers at the Cracker Barrel.

Katy wanted to play too.

We love the rocking chairs at Cracker Barrel and were talking about how nice it would be to have some for the front porch at our new place in WV.

It was a beautiful drive early the next morning on the way to drop Travis off to start the race. We went back to the hotel to have breakfast and go swimming while Travis ran. It was good quality girl time!

Yay Daddy! The girls ran up to Travis as he crossed the finish line.

It was exciting to see Daddy finish the race even if was all sweaty.

It always feels great to finish a race and look forward to some recovery eating.

Travis wanted to have lunch at Jimmy Johns. The sandwiches were so good and the bread was so fresh and chewy!

After lunch we took the girls to the Chattanooga Zoo. It is really small but just the right size for two little ones that have already had a busy morning.

This is Hank the chimp who has been a resident at the zoo for over 30 years.

Lily loved watching this turtle and wanted to go back again to see it before we left. I think it was her favorite animal of the day.

We were warned that the goats really like to be fed and were not shy about checking you out. They started swarming us as we walked in the gate so Travis put the girls on a big rock next to him so they would feel a little safer but this little guy climbed right up on the rock next to them. Lily and Katy were not too sure about this goat at all and wanted Daddy to save them from him.

The girls had already thrown the food they had on the ground but he was still looking for more.

It was pretty funny to watch him nosing around while the girls were trying to hang onto Daddy. He even started chewing on their dresses a little bit.

I think the girls will have a new opinion of goats the next time we read the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

I did manage to get in a couple of pictures this weekend... who cares that I'm the only one looking at the camera at least I'm in a picture. :)

Noah had a good time with his cousins. Turns out a neighborhood friend spent the night too so Carol ended up with 4 smelly boys! Poor Carol. But, she said they had fun staying up late, going to lunch on Saturday, playing putt-putt, and of course going to Plant Smoothie. Pepper was worn out and came home and slept all night. She was happy to be at home with her pack again.
